Choice website, phase 1: pan-London prospectus
The prospectus is an online, London-wide guide to educational provision for learners aged 14-19.
The aims are:
- To give young Londoners - and their carers and advisers - clear details of all the learning opportunities and progression pathways open to them.
- To enable young people to select and plan their own learning online.
- To encourage partners to collaborate across London to deliver and communicate the full range of curriculum choices to all young people.
- To help planners to improve and develop the London 14-19 offer, its quality and distribution and the progression routes available.
The course guide contains a searchable list and full details of all education and training courses on offer to learners aged 14-19 across London. The information will be kept up to date by all the schools, colleges and training organisations that provide the courses. It is hosted by Your London.
The site was designed with the help of young Londoners. It is integrated with London mapping and Transport for London to help users to plan their journey to course and training venues, and shows the nearest tube, train and bus stations for each location.
The prospectus is produced in collaboration and partnership by all 33 London boroughs, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC), London Connects and the DfES; its development is being funded by the LSC, London Challenge and London's Local Authorities. Additional stakeholders include the Mayor of London, the DfES, Further Education and 6th Form College Principals, Head Teachers, Connexions, and work based learning providers.
The Choice website is an initiative of the London 14-19 Forum. The Pan London e-Prospectus and Clearing House will help the London 14-19 Forum to implement the agenda it has undertaken to deliver in the Pan London 14-19 Offer, specifically, by developing:
- a provider network
- better mechanisms for tracking learner progress
- effective partnership and collaboration
- achievement recording which can be moved from one provider to another
- information, advice and guidance that is clear, objective and individualised.
